Aztecs cool down Georgetown offense in 73-56 neutral game win

In what was expected to be a good game on both sides of the court, the San Diego State Aztecs downed the Georgetown Hoyas, 73-56, in the Paycom Wooden Legacy Semifinal. After multiple lead changes early on, the Aztecs went on a 14-4 run to take an eight-point lead into the half.

Although they never gave up the lead at any point in the second half, their once 15-point lead was cut to four points in just six minutes with 9:39 remaining. But that was when San Diego State turned on the engines, going on a 16-3 run to win the ballgame.

Trey Pulliam first responded to the comeback with a two-point jumper before Keshad Johnson made an emphatic dunk that brought back the energy to Aztec fans and his teammates inside the Anaheim Convention Center. Keith Dinwiddie Jr. made a three-point jumper to put the Aztecs back in a double-digit lead.

Senior guard Matthew Bradley led the Aztecs with 18 points scored, seven rebounds and three assists. Bradley had not scored more points in a game this season since he scored the most in an Aztec debut since 2006. The transfer has scored double-digits in points in nine of his last 10 games, going back to his time with California.

Lamont Butler scored 16 points but foul trouble kept his minutes low, reaching four personal fouls with over 10 minutes remaining in the second half. The sophomore guard was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field with three three-point attempts.

San Diego State will face the no. 24 USC Trojans in the Paycom Wooden Legacy Championship Friday, Nov. 26, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. PT from the Anaheim Convention Center. USC beat Saint Joseph’s, 70-55, in the other semifinal game, and will bring their 5-0 undefeated record with them to the court.
