This Saturday, the San Diego State Aztecs came back against the Nevada Wolfpack eventually winning 83-76 in the season finale to regain confidence after back-to-back shaky games.

The Aztecs, who were down 13 at one point in the game, improved to 28-1 on the season with the win and finished the regular season with the best record in Mountain West history.

San Diego State finished the regular season undefeated away from home while the Wolfpack fell to 19-11 and had their 20-game home win streak broken.

After losing last week, the Aztecs fell to no. 5 in the AP Poll but with Baylor losing to TCU on Saturday, the Aztecs could possibly move back to no. 4 when the rankings come out on Monday. A Gonzaga loss seems to be the only thing between a possible San Diego State no. 1 seed in the West Region. If the Aztecs keep winning throughout the Mountain West tournament, they should obtain a 1-seed regardless.

The comeback win was led by Malachi Flynn. Flynn scored a career-high 36 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

KJ Feagin made four three-pointers and finished with 14 points in the seven-point victory.

Flynn and Jalen Harris of Nevada went back and forth all game hitting one clutch jumper after another. Harris scored 24 and competed with Flynn as they currently are for the Mountain West Player of the Year.

With yet another comeback win, coach Brian Dutcher is showing once again why he should be the National Coach of the Year. The Aztecs didn’t get any preseason top 25 votes nor did they earn any preseason Mountain West first-place votes. They are now sitting in the top five in the country and hold the best record in college basketball at 28-1.

Aztecs guard Malachi Flynn is also being nominated for multiple national awards. Flynn finished the regular season averaging 17.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.

The Aztecs next game will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. PT where they will face the winner of the Fresno State-Air Force first-round match in the Mountain West Tournament. The game will be broadcasted on CBSSN.
