The San Diego State Aztecs already clinched the Mountain West regular-season title. On Feb. 16, they moved one game closer to an undefeated regular season with a 72-55 road victory over the Boise State Broncos Sunday afternoon.

The fourth-ranked team in the nation was only 72% favorites heading into the game, but they dominated the Broncos for the majority of the game.

San Diego State remains no. 1 in the NET and no. 4 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. In the recent Bracketology from Joe Lunardi, the Aztecs are the no. 1 seed in the East region.

The return of Nathan Mensah is near as he is practicing at full speed in every area except for contact drills. He is expected to be cleared for contact soon and possibly be back for the Mountain West Tournament in the beginning of March. Having another big man in Mensah to go along with senior Yanni Wetzell would help out the team in a huge way in each aspect of the game.

The win over Boise State was led by Malachi Flynn, Yanni Wetzell, Matt Mitchell and Jordan Schakel, who each recorded double-digit games. Flynn scored 22 points with six rebounds and six assists, Yanni Wetzell scored 14 with seven rebounds, Matt Mitchell scored 11 with seven rebounds, and Jordan Schakel scored 12 points with four rebounds.

Although they dominated in this game, the Aztecs starters scored 69 of the team’s 72 points which could be a concern moving into the NCAA tournament, and another reason why the addition of Nathan Mensah could be big for this team assuming he comes off the bench. However, the Aztecs remain the only undefeated team in the country and haven’t shown much weaknesses this season.

The Aztecs next game comes on Saturday, Feb. 22 against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels. The game will tip-off at 4:30 p.m. PT at Viejas Arena.
