The undefeated No. 4 San Diego State Aztecs have broken the all-time program record for the longest win streak and the best start to a season with their huge road win against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, 71-67, improving them to (21-0, 10-0 MWC) on the season. UNLV stayed in the game throughout its entirety and took the lead a few times, but eventually fell short and dropped to (11-11, 6-3 MWC) this season.

The Runnin’ Rebels were led by Bryce Hamilton who had yet another insane game, scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds. Hamilton only averages 13 points per game, but averaged 30 points per game in the last three games.

As for the Aztecs, they were led by superstar Malachi Flynn, who scored 21 points. Trey Pulliam hadn’t scored points in the double digits all season, but he put up a career-high and scored 18 points without missing a single field goal.

The San Diego State school has had many great basketball teams including the famous 2010-11 team that had NBA superstar Kawhi Leonard. However, no team in the Mountain West Conference has ever had a longer winning streak than the current Aztecs program, which is extremely significant to the school and what the current team represents.

This team is also getting the most national attention historically, now being ranked in the top four for just the second time ever, and also consistently staying in the top three in the NET Rankings, currently standing at No. 1.

The Aztecs will continue their road trip with a game against the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. PT.
