In a very ugly and physical game for both teams, the undefeated San Diego State Aztecs prevailed with a 64-55 victory over Fresno State in the trap game. Fresno State made it awfully close many times during the game, in fact, the Bulldogs at one point led by five over the seventh-best team in college basketball. The Aztecs eventually squeaked out a big road victory over Fresno State, 5-12, (1-5 MWC), keeping the longest win streak in college basketball alive.

San Diego State, who improved their record to 18-0, (7-0 MWC) are now just one of two unbeaten teams along with the Auburn Tigers (15-0). The Aztecs are also off to their second-best start in program history, with Nevada, Wyoming, and UNLV in the way of the program record. Although the Aztecs got a convincing road win in Fresno in this one and at one point had a lead of 16, this was the second time this season the Aztecs have only won by nine points over the Bulldogs. This is very significant just because of the fact that the Aztecs are averaging 19 point wins per game so far on the season. The Bulldogs are among only BYU, San Jose State, and Utah State as far as only losing in single digits to the Aztecs, and they are also the only team to come this close more than once.

An Aztec team that did not shoot particularly up to par with their average, was lead by Malachi Flynn who scored 22 points, Yanni Wetzell with 17 points, and Matt Mitchell, who provided 10 points and 8 rebounds. As for Fresno State, their few points were provided by Orlando Robinson with 18, and New Williams with 15.

As of Tuesday, San Diego State is number two seeds in Andy Katz’ Bracketology which, in the past has been a reliable source for how the seeds will play out, come selection Sunday. Another notable stat is that the Aztecs remain #4 in both the NET and power rankings and will hope to make a push towards the top 5 in the AP Poll next week. That being said, the Aztecs have to play a dangerous Nevada Wolfpack team 11-7, (4-2). This game will be played at 5:00 PM PT, Saturday at Viejas Arena in San Diego, California. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
