In a game where not many shots would drop for a talented Boise State Broncos team, the seventh nationally-ranked team in the latest AP poll, San Diego State Aztecs, crushed the Broncos, 83-65.

In yet another sold out game from Viejas Arena in San Diego, the electric matchup between the two rivals seemed to be decided about two minutes into the game. The Aztecs simply outplayed Boise State, and the better team was shown from the start.

The extremely talented San Diego State team is off to their second best start in program history at 17-0 (6-0 MWC). They are currently the seventh ranked team in the AP poll and are hopeful to make a push into the top five in Monday’s reveal. San Diego State also remains a top 3 team in the NET rankings and are one of two unbeaten teams left, along with the Auburn Tigers (15-0).

The dominant Aztecs home win was not only a huge statement because they crushed a tough opponent, but also because of some of the records that they broke. In fact, this was the first time in nearly 15 years that a San Diego State basketball team had 3 players that scored 19 or more points in a game.

It was yet another productive game for superstar transfer Malachi Flynn, who scored 19 points and six assists, and games like these are beginning to look normal for the Aztecs junior guard. Flynn now averages 16.3 points and 5.1 assists per game, and is the fan-favorite as the Aztecs top player.

Senior Forward Yanni Wetzell also had an amazing game, scoring 20 points which ties his season-high along with five rebounds and four assists. Wetzell is also one of the best players on the very deep San Diego State roster, averaging 11.6 points, and 5 rebounds.

However, neither of these breakout San Diego State stars were the MVP of the game. The clear best player for the Aztecs was senior guard KJ Feagin. Feagin was a star guard when he played at Santa Clara, but had a very slow start to his senior season as an Aztec, averaging just 7 points coming into this game.

Nonetheless, Feagin showed the world what he is capable of as he scored a season-high 23 points.

The Aztecs improved to 17-0 (6-0 MWC) on the night, while Boise State fell to 11-7 (3-3 MWC). The Aztecs return to the court on Tuesday at 8 p.m. PT in Fresno against the Fresno State Bulldogs, which will be streamed on ESPN2.
