After a huge, energy-packed Quad 1 win Saturday over Utah State, the San Diego State Aztecs traveled to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the worst team in the conference, the Wyoming Cowboys.

The home game for the Wyoming Cowboys consisted of a seemingly empty crowd, a quiet arena, and 34 missed Cowboy shots. This game just about summed up a disappointing Wyoming year so far, in a 20-point loss at home to No. 7 San Diego State, dropping their record to 5-12 (0-5 MWC).

As usual for the Cowboys, one of, if not the only bright spot in the game was sophomore Hunter Maldanado who scored his average 18 points, and snagged seven rebounds as well.

As for the undefeated Aztecs, they improved to 16-0 (5-0 MWC) on the night, led by Malachi Flynn who scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds, and also earned eight assists.

Along with Flynn, Aztecs forward Yanni Wetzell had a great game scoring 17 points with four boards. For the rest of the San Diego State squad, Matt Mitchell had a considerably quiet night after his huge night on Saturday against Utah State. Jordan Schakel played his game and scored 11. And KJ Feagin kept his mediocre season up scoring seven points and four assists.

Aztecs center Joel Mensah, who provided big minutes off the bench for the Aztecs this season, was scratched from the lineup at game time with back issues. His return has not been determined.

The Aztecs next game will be against Boise State on Jan. 11 at home, with the game tipping off at 7 p.m. PT.
