It was a slow start for the San Diego State Aztecs, but the offense picked it up in the second half to defeat Cal Poly and take the home victory for the program’s first undefeated non-conference season since the 2010-11 season.

The Aztecs made six 3-point jumpers, with junior guard Malachi Flynn making three of them. The team shot 22.2% from beyond the arc in 27 attempts.

In addition, the Aztecs made 17 of 27 free throws, with junior forward Matt Mitchell leading with four of five shots made.

After leading the team with seven points in the first half, junior guard Jordan Schakel added on five points in the final half and tallied four shots from the field throughout the game.

Flynn finished the non-conference finale with a 14-point, five-rebound and seven-assist performance to lead the team.

Junior guard Trey Pulliam scored seven points and forwards Matt Mitchell and Joel Mensah put up eight and six points off the bench for San Diego State’s 73-57 victory.

With their second perfect non-conference in the past 89 years, the Aztecs will resume conference play on Jan. 1 at noon from the Viejas Arena against the Fresno State Bulldogs.
