The San Diego State Aztecs went into the night trying to save their undefeated season against Creighton, and did so over the Bluejays by a wide margin, taking a 31-point victory.

The Aztecs started out hot, but so did the Bluejays as they were deadlocked in a 18-18 tie halfway through the first half.

Creighton took their first lead of the game at 11:40 into the opening half, a 19-18 lead and took it to 22-20 before the Aztecs went off.

Two short minutes after, a three-point jumper from KJ Feagin and a layup by Nathan Mensah put the Aztecs up 25-22 to begin a 18-0 run. At halftime, the Aztecs were up 40-25.

The second half began slowly for both teams. Three minutes in, the Bluejays held San Diego State’s offense scoreless as they added on three points. However, that did not last long.

Late in the second half, KJ Feagin passed to Jordan Schakel back-to-back possessions for six points, to eliminate any shot of Creighton coming back.

At 6:02 left in the game, Aguek Arop capitalized the San Diego State victory with an alley oop pass that went straight into the net instead, for a 30-point lead, the highest mark at this point in the game.

In the final six minutes, the Aztecs added on 10 against Bluejays’ nine for the 83-52 victory in Las Vegas.

What’s next?

With a blowout victory over Creighton in Vegas, the San Diego State Aztecs (7-0, 0-0 MWC) will go onto the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational Tournament Championship against the Iowa Buckeyes (5-1, 0-0 Big East) at 5 p.m. PT.

The Buckeyes defeated No. 12 Texas Tech Thursday evening in a closely-contested matchup. Jordan Bohannon led the game with 20 points in the 72-61 victory for Iowa. Texas Tech will face Creighton Friday night.

The Aztecs will be coming off one of the best performances the program has seen in years. Malachi Flynn, Matt Mitchell and Yanni Wetzell will look to keep going after 21-, 16- and 15-point games.
