Aztecs set for Conference Tournament against Air Force

This Thursday, the 1-seed San Diego State Aztecs (28-1, 17-1 MWC) face the 9-seeded Air Force Falcons (12-19, 6-13 MWC) in a quarterfinal match-up for the Mountain West Conference Tournament.

The Aztecs, who beat the Falcons 89-74 a few weeks ago, are nearly 80% favorites entering Thursday’s game.

The quarterfinal bracket is all set after Wednesday’s preliminary games between the 6-11 seeds in the tournament. The Air Force, Wyoming Cowboys and New Mexico Lobos each advanced.

The first time these two teams met, the Aztecs came out victorious, but the Falcons certainly put up a good fight. Chris Joyce scored 23 points, five assists and three rebounds, as Lavelle Scottie scored 16 points with 13 rebounds. Although they had a relatively positive offensive game, the Falcons gave up 89 points and 16 or more points to four of the five Aztec starters. Flynn scored 17 points with eight rebounds and seven assists, Feagin scored 21 points, Schakel scored 18 points with four rebounds, and Mitchell scored 16 with four rebounds and three assists.

This was likely the Aztecs’ best game depth-wise, however not so much on the defensive end. The matchup to watch for this game will be Lavelle Scottie vs Yanni Wetzell.

The game will tip-off at 11:30 a.m. PT from the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on CBSSN.
