The last unbeaten team and new No. 4 team in the country, San Diego State Aztecs (19-0, 8-0 MWC) face what is expected to be an easy game Jan. 21 with the Wyoming Cowboys (5-15, 0-8 MWC) coming to town.

The Aztecs only lead the all-time series between the two teams 43-41, but have won eight of the last ten games and are heavily favored in Tuesday night’s showdown at Viejas Arena. In fact, ESPN predicts this will be the easiest game on the remaining schedule for the Aztecs, referring to them as 99.4% favorites.

But regardless of the Cowboys being off to a horrendous start and not having much of a shot at all in this one, their young team has the talent and upside to win, just not this year. For example, Cowboys sophomore guard Hunter Maldanado has had an amazing year so far, averaging 17.4 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, but the rest of the team have not been able to perform.

As for the Aztecs, they are led by midseason All-American Malachi Flynn and forward Yanni Wetzell. Flynn averages 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, five assists and nearly two steals per game. Meanwhile, Wetzell averages 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He has also averaged 18 points in the past four games.

San Diego State had to deal with a talented Nevada team at home on Saturday, being down two points at halftime. But the team came together, putting away the Wolfpack in the second half. The Tuesday night game won’t quite have the same amount of energy and physicality but fans can expect Wyoming to put up a fight against the Aztecs as always.

The two teams played earlier in the month in Laramie, as the Aztecs came out on top, 72-52. For San Diego State, Wetzell scored 17 and Flynn had 19 points, while Wyoming’s Hunter Maldanado scored 18 points with seven rebounds.

Tip-off at Viejas Arena one will start at 8 p.m. PT and will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.
