San Diego State Aztecs against the Boise State Broncos in any sport is always hyped up and expected to be a great game any time they play. This is especially so in Men’s College Basketball. The series between the two teams only dates back to the 2010-11 season, when the Aztecs were ranked No. 17 at the time.

The Aztecs lead the series over the Boise State Broncos 12-7, and are 6-2 when the two teams play in San Diego. The Aztecs continued their dominant undefeated season in a blowout win on the road against Wyoming Jan. 8.

However, the competition will not nearly be the same in this Saturday night showdown from Viejas Arena. The Aztecs had no trouble rolling over a bad Wyoming team, but they are playing this home game against a good Boise State team led by Justinian Jessup and Derrick Alston, already without star forwards Nathan Mensah and Aguek Arop. Joel Mensah is also questionable for the Aztecs in the game.

Boise State guard Derrick Alston leads the team with 20.3 points and 3.1 assists with per game. Guard Justinian Jessup is a veteran all-star for the Broncos, and he averages 15.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.

As for San Diego State, they are led by superstar guard Malachi Flynn who averages 16.1 points, five assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Another key player for the Aztecs on Wednesday night will be forward Yanni Wetzell who, on average, puts up 11.1 points and six rebounds per game.

San Diego State’s third-year head coach, Brian Dutcher has led his Aztecs to the second-best start in program history, at 16-0 (5-0 MWC). Their opponent, Boise State is 11-6 (3-2 MWC).

The Aztecs remain No. 7 in the AP poll and No. 3 in the NET rankings. ESPN has the undefeated Aztecs as a 90 % favorite at home over the Broncos.

The key matchup in the Saturday night showdown is Malachi Flynn vs. Broncos guard Derrick Alston. The game will start at 7 p.m. PT on ESPN3 from Viejas Arena.
