The San Diego State Aztecs (6-0, 0-0 MWC) will begin the Tire Continental Las Vegas Invitational against the Creighton Bluejays (4-1. 0-0 Big East).

This will be the seventh meeting all-time between the two programs, and first since the 2013 Wooden Legacy where the Aztecs won 86-80. Despite them winning the previous matchup, the Aztecs are down 2-4 in the series history with the Bluejays.

In that meeting, San Diego State defeated No. 20 Creighton, one of the top teams in the Big East, with a big thanks to Xavier Thames’s 26-point performance and Winston Shepard’s first career double double. The Aztecs finished with four players with double digits in points.

According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, San Diego State is the favorite over Creighton with a 55.4% chance to win. If the Aztecs win over the Bluejays, they will start out the season 7-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season when Kawhi Leonard led SDSU to a 20-0 start and the first NCAA Sweet 16 bid.

The San Diego State Aztecs are one of 31 college basketball teams who remain undefeated heading into Thanksgiving.

Junior guard Malachi Flynn chose San Diego State over Creighton when he transferred this summer. Flynn has been a huge piece of the Aztecs early dominance with team-leading 13.3 points and 5.7 assists per game.

Forward Nathan Mensah has also made huge impacts early in the season with seven points and team-leading eight rebounds per game. The sophomore from Ghana shot 8-13 from the field as he has earned 17 points in the first two road games this season.

The Creighton Bluejays average 10 points higher than their opponents after five games this season. However, they are 0-1 when not at home.

This will be their first neutral site game of the season, as they hold onto a three-game win streak since the 69-79 loss to Michigan on the road.

Marcus Zegarowski, Creighton’s team-leader in scoring and assists, has been a lethal part of the Bluejays’ offense. The sophomore guard averages 35 minutes per game with a 50.0 three-point percentage (17-34) and 4.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

The Aztecs and Bluejays will go head-to-head from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the opener to the Las Vegas Invitational as the winner will face the winner of No. 12 Texas Tech/Iowa (5 p.m.). The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1 as well as broadcasted from the Aztecs Radio Network on 101.5 KGB.
