Aztecs face Boise State at home in return from hiatus | Everything San Diego

The San Diego State Aztecs (10-3, 2-0 MWC) are finally returning to action after a two-week break due to a COVID-19 breakout. The Aztecs have had two consecutive games postponed, and now will play three games in a five-day span, beginning with the Boise State Broncos (14-4, 5-0 MWC), who are unbeaten in five games so far in conference play.

The red-hot Broncos have won 11 straight games, with an average margin of victory of 14 during that span. San Diego State will face a big physical challenge, and their biggest game of the season yet.

The Aztecs have dominated this rivalry matchup with six straight wins, dating back to January of 2019. During that span, the Aztecs have outscored the Broncos an average 74.5-62.8.

San Diego State’s stellar defense will be put to the test by Broncos leading scorer, Abu Kigab, who averages nearly 14 points per game. Aztecs forwards will have their hands full trying to guard Kigab in the paint.

On top of plenty of offensive production coming from forwards courtesy of Kigab, Boise State also has a starting forward who is top three in the conference in rebounding, in Mladen Armus.

To counter that, the Aztecs will give leading scorer Matt Bradley plenty of opportunities against the Broncos’ backcourt. Bradley is coming off a season-best 26-point performance in a dominant statement win over no. 20 Colorado State on Jan. 8.

He also averages nearly 16 points per game, which goes along extremely well with Nathan Mensah’s eight rebounds per game and Trey Pulliam’s four assists per game.

The San Diego State roster is filled top to bottom with talent, which results in a lot of blowouts in conference games. However, head coach, Brian Dutcher’s Aztecs will face a huge challenge in their return to the court against Leon Rice’s Broncos.

The game will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. PT from Steve Fisher Court at the Viejas Arena on CBS Sports Network.
