Sockers: The San Diego Sockers (5-1) are winners of five straight games and haven’t lost since the season opener at Tacoma. They’re coming off a 9-5 road victory over the Tacoma Stars on Jan. 10, avenging their lone loss of the season.

Comets: The Kansas City Comets (5-0-2) are the only team in the MASL without a regulation loss, but they’ve suffered two defeats in overtime already this season. They’ve won their last two games and beat the Empire Strykers, 7-5, in their last game on Jan. 10.

Players to watch: Sockers: F Luiz Morales (7 G, 1 A, 8 Pts); M Charlie Gonzalez (2 G, 5 A, 7 Pts); F Tavoy Morgan (6 G, 1 A, 7 Pts); GK Boris Pardo (4-1, 4.6 GAA, .645 Sv%). Comets: F Rian Marques (12 G, 8 A, 20 Pts); D Ignacio Flores (2 G, 6 A, 8 Pts); F Zach Reget (6 G, 2 A, 8 Pts), GK Phillip Ejmadu (5-0-1, 3.64 GAA, .728 Sv%).

Head-to-head series: This is their first meeting of the season. San Diego leads the all-time series history at 37-23, but Kansas City has the advantage since the Comets joined the MASL in 2014 at 5-2. The Comets won both games last year with a 9-4 win in San Diego and a 10-6 win in Independence, Mo.
