Boris Pardo became the first goalkeeper in Major Arena Soccer League history to play 10,000 minutes during the Sockers’ Jan. 17 home game against the Texas Outlaws.
Pardo was the first goalkeeper to 100 wins last season.
“It’s a testament to how long I’ve been in the league and earning those minutes as a starter, so it means a lot to me that I’ve been around this long,” Pardo said.
Pardo placed first in the MASL with 114 wins, a first-place tie with 173 games played and third with 1,868 saves made across nine seasons with the Sockers and two seasons in the Kansas City Comets organization.
Pardo entered the game Friday needing to play 33:36 to reach 10,000 minutes played.
He was tied with Tacoma Stars goalkeeper Chris Toth for the most games played by a goalkeeper. Toth would surpass 10,000 minutes played with 13:52 played in the Stars’ game on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Pardo said there is some competition between the goalkeepers, and he was aware that him and Toth had been neck-and-neck in the race.
“I’m not gonna let him get it,” Pardo said with a big smile on his face. “He can have the saves, that means he’s just not around a good team.”
Backup goalkeeper Xavier Snaer-Williams relieved him and finished Pardo's win.
Pardo was honored on the field during the third-quarter media timeout before he left the game. He made seven saves and allowed three goals in 37:01 played on Friday.
