Major League Soccer is coming to San Diego at long last, and it’s expected to be officially announced on Thursday at a news conference at Snapdragon Stadium on Thursday, per source.

MLS has been looking for its 30th franchise since 2021 when Sacramento dropped out, and after years of bidding for an expansion club, San Diego has received their team.

The club is owned by Egyptian-British billionaire Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan tribe of Southern California, who will reportedly pay a record $500-million expansion fee to become San Diego’s third major professional sports team (Padres and Wave).

The team will begin play during the 2025 MLS season at San Diego State University’s Snapdragon Stadium, which opened in September 2022 and already hosts San Diego State football, the San Diego Wave, and the San Diego Legion during the spring, summer, and fall months.

There will be a public introductory event held at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, May 20, at 7 p.m., per a report from 2 Balls and a Mic.
