Max Muncy’s fourth inning grand slam proved to be the difference as the Dodgers defeated the Padres on Tuesday night 6-3. With the win, Los Angeles clinched home field advantage throughout the National League Championship Series.
Ronald Bolaños started for the Padres, and struggled throughout the night. Following two walks and a hit batsman in the first, A.J. Ronald Bolaños was able to keep the Dodgers off the scoreboard in the second and third innings, but ran into more trouble in the fourth. With two outs he walked Will Smith, Tony Gonsolin singled to right and then he walked Joc Pederson before being removed from the game. The first pitch from Gerardo Reyes was an elevated 95 MPH fastball that Max Muncy crushed into the right field stands for a grand slam and a 5-0 Dodgers lead. Bolaños finished the night with 3⅔ IP, 3 H, 4ER, 5 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K and was charged with the loss.
Padres scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning. Luis Urías singled to drive in Luis Torrens who had doubled. Manuel Margot then tripled to right field and scored on a throwing error by 2B Gavin Lux to bring the Padres with in one run. That was the only offense the Padres gathered as they would be held to five hits on the evening and struck out 12 times.
Same two teams will play on Wednesday night. Dinelson Lamet (4-4, 3.84 ERA) will attempt to build off his previous start and will face Dodgers’ Ross Stripling (4-4, 3.32 ERA).
