Game notes:
Padres rookie Ronald Bolaños was greated rudley to the big leagues by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ketel Marte leadoff with a triple to right and Josh Rojas followed with a single to left to get the Diamondbacks on the board early. They would add another run later in the first inning on a Jake Lamb RBI groundout. Those would be the only runs allowed by Bolaños over six innings while striking out four, he allowed five hits and two walks.
Padres hitters were kept off the scoreboard until the ninth inning, but they did have a couple of chances, leaving ten runners on base. San Diego left multiple runners on base in the third and eighth innings before getting a run across in the ninth. Wil Myers’ two-out RBI single scored Hunter Renfroe who had led off the inning with a walk. Padres loaded the bases before Nick Martini struck out looking to end the game.
David Bednar, Matt Strahm and Craig Stammen combined for two scoreless innings, but allowed a total of four base runners.
Next up:
Chris Paddack (8-7, 3.69 ERA)is coming off his best start since July 17. Against the Giants, Paddack allowed one run in seven innings, striking out eight with no walks. Zac Gallen (2-4, 2.79 ERA) will make his thirteenth start of the season and of his career. Since being traded from the Miami Marlins Gallen is 1-1 with a 2.88 ERA in five starts. Game time from Phoenix, AZ will be 6:40 PM PDT.
