In a rematch of a 2018 semifinal, the San Diego Legion and Seattle Seawolves will play for the 2019 Major League Rugby Championship on Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium in San Diego, CA. Last year, Seattle defeated San Diego in the semifinal matchup and went on to become the 2018 MLR Champion.

These two teams played in San Diego on February 2, in what is now remembered as the “rain game.” Legion would defeat Seattle 17-13 in a game filled with mistakes caused by the rainy conditions. San Diego also handed Seattle their only loss at home by defeating the Seawolves 28-22 on March 31st.

San Diego coming into the championship game posted the MLR’s best defense, only allowing 18.7 points per match. Seattle bolstered the best offense scoring with 31.1 points per match. San Diego is also the most penalized team in the league, while Seattle has the best scrum percentage, an area where San Diego has struggled tremendously the last two weeks. Head coach Rob Hoadley after last week’s semifinal win versus RUNY, “We are going to have to tighten up our scrum and our line-out drive defense.”

When asked about the team’s preparation this week, Hoadley responded “Its been a great week's preparation. Seattle have had great season and have quality throughout their lineup. They have incredibly physical forwards led by a talented young half back paining, and a very dangerous back 3.”

“We know we will have to raise our intensity and accuracy after the semi final win. We are massively grateful for the opportunity to compete for the shield in front of our passionate home fans. We are looking forward to a great day for San Diego.”
