The Gulls came into the night with a 2-1 lead in the AHL Calder Cup Western Conference Final. After playing a full 4 periods, plus 8 minutes of a fifth one, the Wolves came out on top 2-1. The series is now split at 2 apiece.
Kevin Boyle started the past two games of the series, and has been on a hot streak since his second start of the postseason. He is now 3-1 and saved 111 of 116 of shots on goal, including a playoff-high 42 saves in San Diego’s Friday night loss.
There was almost no offense at all in the first two periods, only getting 12 shots on goal. However, things changed in the final period of regulation when they scored the game-tying goal.
Nonetheless, the defense did appear with some phenomenal defensive saves and, of course, Kevin Boyle saved 42 shots. Trevor Murphy and Justin Kloos made some of the best saves not made by Boyle.
The Gulls and Wolves will go into the fifth game of the best-of-7 series in a 2-2 split. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM P.T. Saturday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
