The series was tied 1-1 to start the night. One team had to take that 2-1 lead and be two wins from heading to the AHL Calder Cup Finals. That team was the San Diego Gulls Wednesday night as they defeated the Wolves 3-2!

San Diego rallied behind a phenomenal performance from Kevin Boyle in the goal. Boyle saved 21 shots out of 23 and put the Gulls in the position to take this game. In his last two starts, he has combined for 50 saves for a .962 save percentage. Since his awful start to the Calder Cup Playoffs, when he gave up 3 goals within the game’s first 7 minutes, Boyle has won all three playoff starts.

In the first period, the Wolves got into an early lead, scoring off of Boyle, just 01:35 into the game. But shortly after, San Diego tied it up off a goal by Corey Tropp. In the second period, the Gulls scored twice more with goals by Sam Steel and Trevor Murphy. In the third period Kevin Boyle had 10 saves with 2 shots from the Wolves at point blank range. With 04:28 left in regulation, Chicago pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. With a 6-on-5 offense, the Wolves scored to pull the game within one. At 02:28, the Wolves pulled their goalie again and played the remainder of the game with a one-man advantage, but were unable to score the game-tying goal.

The Gulls and Wolves will head into the fourth game of the AHL Calder Cup Western Conference Finals with a 2-1 San Diego lead. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM P.T. at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
