San Diego Growlers
Growlers play in San Jose for season finale
Graham Gerhart - July 6, 2019

With just one game left in the regular season, the Growlers will travel to the Bay Area to take on the San Jose Spiders. After their win last week, the Growlers have already made the playoffs and clinched the West division, leaving only pride on the line as they play the Spiders.

Unlike their Seattle and Los Angeles rivals, San Diego has not lost to San Jose all season. In all three games against the Spiders, San Diego has managed to hold onto a lead --no matter how slim. And while San Jose will still do their best to pull out a win, the odds are stacked against them. Not only do they have a losing record, they’ll be playing without two of their best players. Lior Givol and Jackson Stearn are not on San Jose’s active roster for the weekend, leaving the team short on firepower.

San Diego won’t be giving them any chances, either. They’re sending a fully-powered roster to close out their season on a high note. Jonathan Helton, Travis Dunn, and Steven Milardovich will all be traveling with the team for the game, and they aren’t missing any of their starting offensive line. Included on that unit are players like Sean Ham, who has racked up an impressive 42 goals this season, and Jesse Cohen, who’s coming off a 5 goal, 4 assist performance against Seattle.

In the mind of their leadership team, this is the first game of the playoffs, and they’re treating it as such. Ending their season with a loss is just the same as starting the postseason with one. With all that’s on the line for the Growlers in the postseason, they want to head into it with as much momentum as possible. The game starts at 7pm PDT at Foothill College Stadium. It will be available for viewing on AUDL.tv, too.
