The San Diego State Aztecs went into week 2 with a lot of question marks on the offense. However, they put those question marks aside, beating the UCLA Bruins for the first time in school history! The overall play of the defense made a huge impact on the win, forcing 3 fumbles and recovering 2 of them to help get points on the board.
The first half was a decent half, with the Aztecs leading the Bruins 10-7 at the 30-minute mark. The run game wasn’t the best and it just couldn’t get going. However, Ryan Agnew started the game off really well, putting up 10 points in the first quarter alone. The defense played was great, only allowing 7 points to the Bruins and constantly forcing the quarterback out of the pocket and forcing turnovers. Overall, it was a solid first half for the Aztecs.
The second half started out the same way as the first quarter started. The Aztecs scored 10 points in the 3rd while giving up 7 to the Bruins. The defense stayed hot and held the Bruins at bay. The Aztecs were only forced to punt a total of 5 times the whole game. Ryan Agnew finished the game 23/31 and passed the ball for 291 yards, while throwing a touchdown -- a huge rebound from last week’s poor performance. Juwan Washington finished running the ball 20 times, but only for 41 yards.
Next week, the Aztecs will travel to New Mexico, to face the Aggies. The game will be on Saturday, September 14th, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. New Mexico State is coming off arguably the worst loss in school history, losing to Alabama 10-62. If there is any time to beat the Aggies, it is now, before they get hot, and play at their best.
