San Diego Wave added Canadian winger Adriana Leon to their roster on a transfer from England and signed her to a two-year deal with a mutual option for the 2027 NWSL season.
Leon came on a transfer from Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League where she scored three goals in 11 appearances (four starts) in the 2024-25 season.
"Adriana is a fantastic addition to our team, bringing a dynamic attacking presence and a wealth of experience at the highest levels," general manager Camille Ashton said in a press release sent to the media. "She is a proven playmaker with technical quality, creativity, and a relentless work ethic that will complement our style of play. Her experience in top leagues and on the international stage will be invaluable, and we’re excited to welcome her and see the immediate impact she’ll have both on and off the field."
Leon played in 88 matches across seven seasons in the NWSL, most recently for the Portland Thorns in 2023 while on a three-month loan from Manchester United.
She won the NWSL Championship in 2016 with the Western New York Flash when she appeared in 10 matches with three starts.
The 34-year-old Ontario, Canada-native also played for the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars (currently Chicago Stars FC), Seattle Reign FC and Sky Blue FC (currently NJ/NY Gotham FC) in a six-year stint in the NWSL from 2013-18 that began her professional career.
“This is a Club with big ambitions, and I’m ready to give everything I have to help the team succeed. The passion of the fans and the energy around this city make it an amazing place to play, and I’m looking forward to stepping on the field and representing San Diego with pride,” Leon said in the press release.
