U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year nominee Trinity Armstrong signs with Wave - Everything San Diego

Defender and U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year Trinity Armstrong signed with the San Diego Wave after winning the NCAA Championship in her freshman year with the University of North Carolina, the Wave announced today.

The 17-year-old from Frisco, Texas, started in all 21 matches that she appeared in with the Tar Heels on the back line. She did not play in six consecutive matches in October and November while she played for the U.S. Youth National Team alongside Wave midfielders Kimmie Ascanio and Melanie Barcenas.

“Trinity is an incredible young talent and we are thrilled she has decided to take the next step in her career with us here at the Wave,” general manager and sporting director Camille Ashton said in the Wave’s press release. “She had incredible success this year at the collegiate level and on the international stage and we are so excited about her future in San Diego.”

She earned All-ACC first team and ACC All-Freshman team honors in 2024.

Armstrong attended Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, where she earned Freshman of the Year, All-District and All-American honors. She earned MVP and Defensive MVP honors at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and played youth soccer for FC Dallas.
