Landon Donovan and Mya Jones were made available to the media prior to their Tuesday night Champions Cup match with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
• Jaedyn Shaw will get her first start with the Wave since July 5 and her first in the Donovan era.
“She looks great in training,” Donovan said of Shaw. “She’s playing well when she’s coming into the games and now she gets a chance to really get her legs under her so I’m excited to watch her tomorrow.”
Shaw suffered an injury just days prior to the FIFA World Cup in July and had been rehabbing her injury since rejoining the Wave after the World Cup.
• The club got healthy at the right time as they entered a eight-day span with three matches in three different cities across two countries.
The Wave have around 20 field players healthy which will allow Donovan the privilege of spreading out the minutes to many players instead of having eight players play a full 90 minutes like he did in his first match as the interim head coach in Panama to open the Champions Cup group play.
• Hillary Beall will get some sort of playing time in Vancouver. Donovan did not clarify whether she would start or how many minutes she would get.
• Jones will get the rare opportunity to face her former academy club when she and the Wave face the Whitecaps on Tuesday. Jones is a Calgary native but lived in Vancouver for multiple years.
“It’s pretty surreal,” Jones started. “You always dream about that when you’re a kid to be playing in a stadium that you once were watching on the sidelines. Just being back here in a city that means a lot to me is just a big deal to play in BC Place.”
• Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed on the CBS Sports Golazo Network.
