After a 2-5 start to the season where the San Diego Seals only had one halftime lead, the team knew they needed to rebound and give hope to the San Diego community.

Fueled by the return of the NLL 2018-19 Rookie of the Year Austin Staats, they did just that. After falling behind 3-1 early, the Seals capped a seven-goal second quarter with a buzzer-beating goal to take a 8-6 halftime lead.

Previously, Casey Jackson appeared in only two games, racking up two goals and three assists. But Jackson recorded season-highs with three goals and two assists in the first 30 minutes.

Forward Zach Greer has been one of the most consistent players this season for the Seals, and he kept that up, recording three goals and one assist in the first two quarters.

The Seals got off to a hot start to the second half, extending their lead to six with first-time goals from Jeremy Noble and Kyle Buchanan, and two goals by Wesley Berg.

Goaltender Nick Damude had a great night in the NLL with 32 saves.

In the fourth quarter, San Diego finished the job with four additional goals. Scoring from Austin Staats, Connor Fields, Drew Belgrave and two more from Casey Jackson.

In his first return to the active roster since an ACL injury that ended his season last year, forward Austin Staats played 11 minutes, assisted three goals and scored one of his own in the fourth quarter.

Staats tallied 61 points in 14 games en route to winning the 2019 NLL Rookie of the Year award last season.

Casey Jackson finished his career high night with five goals and three assist.

The Seals return to the road for one more game before returning home. They’ll head to the Pepsi Center Feb. 15 in a rematch against the Colorado Mammoth.
