Greer scores seven points in 16-11 loss to Roughnecks

The Seals fell to the Calgary Roughnecks and remain winless so far in the 2020 season. Zach Greer scored seven points and Wesley Berg and Connor Fields each earned four points in the 16-11 loss.

In his long-awaited return to the field, left-handed forward Johnny Pearson scored his first goal of the season and put the Seals on the board for a 1-1 tie.

A four-goal second quarter saw San Diego jump the Roughnecks with goals by Wesley Berg Jeremy Noble and two scores from forward Zach Greer, his third and fourth goals in three games this season. However, Calgary surpassed the Seals again at the end of the half and San Diego was down 6-5.

By halftime, Greer, who averaged 3.5 points per game, already recorded three points. The 33-year-old forward began San Diego scoring in the second half with his third goal and fourth point of the night.

Berg added on and closed the gap to two points with his second goal and point of the night. It was the Seals’ ninth third-quarter goal in the team’s first three games of the 2020 season.

However, the Calgary Roughnecks had a huge third quarter for five goals and an 11-7 lead.

After another Calgary score, left-handed forward Connor Fields scored his first goal of the night, his fourth point. Greer scored his fourth goal and sixth point of the night to bring the deficit down to three with 4:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Pearson and Mikie Schlosser scored in the final 4:15 of regulation, but Calgary added four more for a 16-11 Roughnecks win.

With their third consecutive loss to begin the season, the Seals will face the Vancouver Warriors on the road on Sunday, Dec. 29. The Seals are still searching for their first victory of the season and will look for it in Vancouver.
