The San Diego Seals and Vancouver Warriors entered the Friday night matchup in a three-team tie for the final playoff spot. The Seals took sole possession with a 13-11 win.
San Diego forward and captain Wesley Berg scored the game-winning goal with 1:20 remaining and forward Rob Hellyer scored on an empty net with 37.5 seconds left.
Hellyer scored two goals and seven assists for a game-leading nine points. Forward Ryan Benesch scored a hat trick and two assists for the Seals.
The Seals kept Vancouver off the board for a span of 24:33 between the second and fourth quarters that allowed San Diego to go on a 6-0 run and take a 11-7 lead into the final quarter.
Vancouver went on a 4-0 run during a span of just over four minutes to tie the game at 11 apiece, but they never scored again.
Berg scored twice in the opening quarter and finished with a team-leading four goals scored.
Up next: The Seals host the last-place Las Vegas Desert Dogs on Sunday, March 16 with a 1:30 p.m. start at Pechanga Arena.
