The Tritons are going dancing in the men’s NCAA Tournament after they defeated UC Irvine, 75-61, in the conference championship game.

It was UC San Diego’s 15th consecutive win between the final 13 games of the conference season and the two Big West Championships games.

UC San Diego made 11 3’s throughout the night, including six from senior guard Hayden Gray. Gray led the Tritons with 20 points, three steals and a block.

It was also their second win over the Big West giants this season. The Tritons lost the first game between the two teams in a 60-52 home loss on Jan. 11. They returned the favor at the home of the Anteaters on Feb. 8, an 85-67 win.

Senior guard/forward Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones scored 14 points with eight rebounds and eight assists.

UC Irvine did not make a field goal in a 5:30 span that ended by a 3-point shot with two seconds remaining in the game.

Up next: UC San Diego awaits game dates and opponents for the NCAA Tournament which will be announced on Selection Sunday at 3 p.m. on March 16.
