UC San Diego will make its Big West Men’s Basketball Championships tournament debut on Friday, March 14 after they won the conference’s regular-season title.
In their first year of NCAA Tournament eligibility, they finished with a 18-2 record in Big West play, ahead of No. 2-seed UC Irvine and the rest of the conference to win it and receive a bye straight to the conference semifinal.
They’ll play the winner of Thursday’s No. 4 CSUN and the winner of the No. 5 UC Santa Barbara or No. 8 Cal State Bakersfield game that’ll be played on Wednesday. Both games will take place at 6 p.m. at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson, Nev.
The Tritons will need just two wins to punch their ticket to their first NCAA Tournament at the Division I level. It’s their first year of eligibility after their Division I transition period, which began in 2020, ended last summer.
