- UC San Diego receives its first Division I top-25 votes in men’s basketball program history

The UC San Diego men’s basketball team received five top-25 votes in the Associated Press’ latest poll.

They received a 23rd-place vote, 24th-place vote and three 25th-place votes for their first top-25 votes since they became a Division I school in 2020.

This is the first season the Tritons would be eligible for the NCAA Tournament.

UC San Diego began the season with a 63-58 loss to the crosstown rival San Diego State Aztecs who were ranked as high as No. 20 earlier this season in the AP and coaches polls.

They own a 24-4 overall record and a 14-2 record in Big West play. They took first place in the conference when they defeated UC Irvine, 85-67, on the road on Feb. 8 with a national television audience.

The Tritons' most recent win, a 83-44 blowout of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on Feb. 22, extended their current win streak to nine games.

UC San Diego plays on the road against Cal State Northridge and host Cal State Fullerton this week.
