San Diego State played their first game as a top 25 (AP Poll & Coaches Poll) team, but did not play like it against a below-average Nevada Wolf Pack. In the back-and-forth game, the Aztecs lost 13-17, along with their top 25 hopes.

In the first half, the Aztecs could not get anything going on offense as they scored just a field goal from kicker Matt Araiza. However, defense also kept Nevada at three to keep the game tied at halftime.

In the third quarter, Nevada struck first, scoring on a 13-yard touchdown pass on the first drive of the half. The touchdown pass ended a 16-play, eight-minute drive.

Nevertheless, San Diego State fought right back with a 14-play, six-minute drive for 71 yards and a touchdown to tie the game. Chance Bell ran for the only touchdown by the Aztecs to make it a 10-9 ballgame. Araiza made his only extra point to tie the game again.

The defense kept Nevada from breaking the tie until the fourth quarter after they made a 50-yard reception before rushing for a one-yard touchdown. An extra point made a 17-10 game.

The Aztecs struggled to get back into the game as they settled for a 44-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter. They got another chance but were not successful as they turned the ball over on downs.

The Aztecs will play their only game under the Friday night lights at 6:30 p.m. PT next week against the Fresno State Bulldogs at SDCCU Stadium.
