Baseball America released their new top 100 prospect rankings for the upcoming 2023 season that included San Diego Padres first-round picks shortstop Jackson Merrill (no. 22) and left-hander Dylan Lesko (69).
Merrill, 19, spent the 2022 season between Rookie ball and Single-A Lake Elsinore for the Padres, where he slashed .339/.395/.511/.906 in 55 games. The shortstop was drafted in the first round (27th overall) in the 2021 Amateur Draft.
Lesko, 19, was taken in the first round (15th overall) of the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft from Buford High School (Buford, Ga.). He has not played a professional game yet.
Outfielders James Wood (11) and Robert Hassell III (57), two former Padres minor leaguers traded to acquire Juan Soto and Josh Bell in August 2022, also made the top 100 list for the Washington Nationals.
