San Diego Padres’ superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. will reportedly miss up to three months to start the season with a fractured wrist that will likely require surgery, per The Athletic’s Dennis Lin.

Tatis Jr. said he first felt pain in his wrist one month ago, and that multiple different accidents could be the cause. In December, he was involved in a motorcycle accident in the Dominican Republic.

However, there were photos shortly after the accident that showed a brace over Tatis’ wrist.

He has not decided on whether to get the surgery, but signs point to him getting the surgery which has a three-month recovery time, according to Lin.

Tatis Jr. has only been to the all-star game once in his three MLB seasons after missing too much time in his first season and there not being an all-star game in the 60-game season of 2020. If he misses three months, he will not return until about two weeks before the all-star break.

For now, Ha-Seong Kim looks like the favorite to start at shortstop, but top prospect CJ Abrams will get an extended look at shortstop this spring with a shot at making the Opening Day roster.
