On Monday, the Padres announced Nick Martini has been claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds.

Martini, 29, made his debut in 2018 and was claimed off waivers from the Oakland Athletics by the Padres in August last season. The second-year outfielder hit .244/.344/.317 in the final two months of the season.

The Padres also announced Monday that Ben Fritz was named the new bullpen coach in San Diego.

Fritz has worked in the Padres organization for the past five seasons. The last two years, Fritz spent as the rehab pitching coordinator. He was also the manager of the Padres’ Class-A Tri-City Dust Devils from 2016-17.

The hitting coach position is the only spot available for Jayce Tingler’s new coaching staff.
