Thursday, the Padres made a few moves clearing space on their 40-man roster.
Outfielder Travis Jankowski has been traded to the Cincinnati Reds for international cap space, right-hander Robert Stock was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies, Brett Kennedy was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso, and Robbie Erlin has elected free agency after clearing waivers.
Travis Jankowski, 28, has been with the Padres a part of five different seasons, while only playing in 334 games. Jankowski was a career .317 hitter but suffered through many injuries over the years.
Robert Stock, 29, made his big league debut in 2018 and went 1-1 with a 2.50 earned run average (ERA) through 39 2/3 innings in his rookie season. However, in only 10 innings in 2019, Stock held a 10.13 ERA and had a WHIP of over 2.
Brett Kennedy, 25, also made his major league debut in 2018 when he finished his rookie season with a 1-2 record and a 6.75 ERA. He was on San Diego’s 60-day injured list for all of the 2019 season.
Robbie Erlin, 29, had played with the Padres for the longest among players on the roster, making his debut with San Diego in 2013. He struggled in 2019, recording the highest ERA and WHIP in his career in 37 games (one start).
The Padres 40-man roster is now at 48, including their 60-day injured list.
