On April 18 and 19, the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks will play a two-game series in Mexico City at the new Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium. The D-backs will play as the home team after the games were originally scheduled in Phoenix.
The two weekend games will be the first time Major League Baseball will play regular season games in Mexico City. In the past, games were played in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Padres last played in Mexico in 2018 in a three-game set against the Dodgers at Monterrey, also as the road team. After being no-hit by four different pitchers in the first game, the Padres went on to win the final two games to take the series over the favorited Dodgers.
Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City was opened in March of this past year and is home to the Diablos Rojos del México, who play in the Mexican League. The stadium reaches 400 feet at dead center, and is the second largest stadium in Mexico, with a capacity of 20,576 spectators.
