In the Padres’ 7-5 loss in Colorado, they suffered another loss to the rotation as newly signed right-hander Jake Arrieta left his Padres debut in the fourth inning due to a hamstring injury.
Arrieta was through 3 ⅓ innings when Padres manager Jayce Tingler and the trainer went to check on him, and eventually made the move to take him out. The 35-year-old had given up five runs (all earned) on seven hits, and struck out three Rockie hitters.
The Padres rotation is once again down to three starting pitchers left as the preseason best rotation in baseball has taken hit after hit. Right-handed pitchers Mike Clevinger, Yu Darvish, Dinelson Lamet, Chris Paddack, and left-handed pitcher Adrian Morejon are currently on the injured list, with Arrieta most likely joining them.
After the game, Tingler announced left-hander Blake Snell will start Friday and Joe Musgrove will start Saturday when the team returns home to face the Philadelphia Phillies.
