Game 1: RHP Michael King (13-9, 2.95 ERA) Game 2: RHP Joe Musgrove (6-5, 3.88 ERA) Game 3: RHP Dylan Cease (14-11, 3.47 ERA)
King is honored as the Game 1 starter after putting up a stellar 2.95 ERA in his first full season as a starter in MLB. Having Cease as the Game 3 starter would allow him to start Game 1 of the NLDS if the Padres beat the Braves in the first two games.
Yu Darvish will be available out of the bullpen.
CHRIS SALE ‘NOT LIKELY’ TO START VS. PADRES By Jonny Richardson - Sept. 30, 4:51 PM
Braves starter and Cy Young favorite Chris Sale is not likely to start in the NL Wild Card Series vs. the Padres, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported.
He was expected to start in Game 2 of Monday’s double-header but was scratched shortly before the game due to back spasms. He has not pitched since Sept. 19.
PADRES TO HOST BRAVES IN NL WILD CARD SERIES By Jonny Richardson - Sept. 30, 4:07 PM
The Padres will host the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wild Card Series beginning Tuesday.
They defeated the Mets, 3-0, in Game 2 of Monday’s double-header to clinch their spot in the postseason.
The injury-depleted Braves will have played five games in four days as they now travel to San Diego for the best-of-three series. Pitching matchups TBD.
PADRES MUST WAIT FOR WILD CARD SERIES OPPONENT By Jonny Richardson - Sept. 30, 1:19 PM
The Padres will have to wait until Game 2 of today’s Braves-Mets double-header to find out who they face in the Wild Card Series beginning tomorrow night.
The Mets won Game 1 in dramatic fashion, 8-7, to send themselves into the postseason for the first time since 2022.
If the Mets win the second game, it’ll be the Padres and Mets for the second time in three years in the Wild Card Series, although this time it’ll be in San Diego. The Brewers would host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the other NL Wild Card series.
If the Braves take Game 2, it’ll be the Padres and Braves meeting in the postseason for the first time since they faced each other in the NLCS in 1998 when the Padres took the series, 4-2, to go to their second World Series. The Mets would go to Milwaukee to finish the NL playoff schedule.
