Eight different Sockers scored and San Diego took down the Tacoma Stars in dominant fashion to extend their winning streak to a season-best five games.
Kraig Chiles, Brandon Escoto, Charlie Gonzalez, Leonardo De Oliveira and Juan Manuel Rojo each netted a score in the first quarter that saw the Sockers go up by four.
Chiles’ first-quarter shootout score was the 600th point in his arena soccer career in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) and Premier Arena Soccer League, which became the MASL after the 2013-14 season.
Forward Tavoy Morgan tacked on another goal in the second quarter for his 14th goal of the season.
In the second half, Cesar Cerda and Felipe Gonzalez joined the action while Rojo scored his second goal of the night to finish the club’s largest win since 2019.
Goalkeeper Xavier Snaer-Williams saved 16 of 19 shots, filling in for the starting goalkeeper Boris Pardo who missed Friday’s match due to a two-game suspension. Snaer-Williams played just 67 seconds of San Diego’s Jan. 16 victory over the Ontario Fury only previous game this season.
The San Diego defense supplied Snaer-Williams with plenty of support, and with the combination of great defense and fast hands protecting the net, the Sockers held Tacoma to three goals.
He also contributed his outstanding effort to the fan atmosphere at Pechanga Arena, where 1,624 fans, including a San Diego Loyal SC supporter group, Chavos de Loyal, who brought the noise and excitement with them.
Snaer-Williams is expected to protect the net again Sunday, Jan. 30 with a quick turnaround when Utica City FC comes to town for a 5 p.m. matchup in San Diego.
