After more than a year and a half without a home for the San Diego Sockers, the long-time indoor soccer club in San Diego brings their 15th championship to the first home match in 651 days.
The Sockers (1-0, 2nd in West) will face the Chihuahua Savage (0-1, T-3rd in West) for the first time ever as the Major Arena Soccer League’s (MASL) newest expansion team plays its inaugural season.
In San Diego’s first victory of the 2021-22 season, midfielders Brandon Escoto and Charlie Gonzalez each scored two goals and two assists while defender Juan Manuel Rojo and forward Leonardo De Oliveira each earned two points.
On the other hand, the Savage dropped their first ever match on the road when the West Division rival and 2021 runner-up Ontario Fury won 6-3. Chihuahua’s David Gonzalez scored a goal and assist in his MASL debut.
The match will be played Sunday, Dec. 19 at Pechanga Arena San Diego at 5:05 p.m. PT when the Sockers unveil the 15th championship banner in team history, and first since joining the MASL in 2013.
