The San Diego Sockers dropped the road trip finale and fell to 11-4 on the season after a 8-5 loss to the Florida Tropics.
The Tropics struck first in the first quarter, but the Sockers tied the game with a goal off the foot of Taylor Walter Bond, his fifth of the season, with less than five minutes remaining in the first half.
Florida got off to a hot start in the third quarter, scoring the half’s first two goals for a 3-1 lead.
San Diego defender Cesar Cerda cut the deficit in half when forward Leonardo De Oliverira passed to him four minutes into the new half.
However, the Tropics added five unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters to hold an 8-2 lead, their largest lead of the match.
The Sockers attempted a late comeback, scoring three fourth-quarter goals from Cerda, and midfielders Hiram Ruiz and a sixth-attacker goal by Brandon Escoto.
Cerda finished the night with two goals, which tied a career-high since Feb. 10, 2017 when he scored three goals in his first season in the MASL.
The Sockers will return to the arena Feb. 12 when the Baltimore Blast come to San Diego as the Sockers continue their three-game Eastern Division stretch.
