The Sockers, taking their past three matches, took out the Turlock Cal Express to avenge the season opener loss on Nov. 24.
The Cal Express struck first in the opening quarter with an even strength goal from Arturo Pulido.
Almost seven minutes into the second quarter, forward Leonardo De Oliveira scored San Diego’s first goal of the night to tie the ballgame. The goal was Oliveira’s second of the season, and the first of two during the night.
The Sockers took the lead with under three minutes remaining in the first half as Eduardo Velez scored his third goal of the season for a 2-1 San Diego lead.
Oliveira put the Sockers up first in the second half with a 3-1 lead before Turlock scored three unanswered goals to jump ahead of San Diego before the end of the third quarter.
Nonetheless, the Sockers were resilient and took their three consecutive goals in the span of eight minutes to re-take the lead.
The Express battled for another goal but could not close out the deficit as the Sockers’ defense closed them out for a 6-5 victory.
The Sockers return to home field Dec. 22 against the Tacoma Stars in a playoff rematch. Kickoff will be at 5:05 p.m. PT.
