Following a loss in the season opener, the Sockers went on the road for the first time this season. They defeated the Tacoma Stars by a score of 7-3 as San Diego played spoiler in the Stars’ home and season opener.
The Tacoma Stars struck first with a goal from Michael Ramos for the team’s first score of the new season.
The Sockers answered that with a goal of their own to tie the ballgame at one apiece. The goal came from midfielder Travis Pittman for his first of the season.
Six minutes into the new quarter, Kraig Chiles scored the team’s first power play goal of the season.
Another three minutes later, Chiles shot his second goal of the night to put the Sockers up 3-1.
The Stars answered back with a goal of their own. Tacoma’s Nick Perera scored the team’s second goal of the night with 2:29 remaining in the first half.
At halftime, the Sockers led 3-2 over Tacoma with their first lead at the half in the 2019-20 season.
The Sockers began the third quarter with their fourth goal of the night. At 1:15 into the second half, San Diego’s Slavisa Ubiparipovic scores his first goal with his new team.
Ubiparipovic followed that with his second goal of the night, joining teammate Kraig Chiles with a multi-goal effort. The score put the Sockers up 5-2 with under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Within two minutes, the Stars responded with their own goal, bringing the deficit within two once again.
The fourth quarter was all Sockers as Brandon Escoto and Brian Farber each scored their first of the night to put San Diego up top, 7-3.
The Sockers advanced to 1-1 on the season with their first victory. They will return home for a Friday night game on Dec. 13 to renew their rivalry with the Ontario Fury.
