The San Diego Sockers begin their first of two east coast road trips Saturday when they face the East Division’s Baltimore Blast for the first time this season.
The Sockers (16-0-1, 45 pts) put their 13-game win streak on the line in Maryland. They have played many close games that they have managed to pull off the win in the final minutes. Their only loss came at home in an overtime affair with SoCal rival Ontario Fury.
San Diego boasts three players in the top-10 assists leaderboard, with Leonardo De Oliveira leading the charge at 24 assists, two more than Kansas City’s John Sosa in second. Brando Escoto (fourth) and Kraig Chiles (seventh) also rank in the top-10.
The Blast’s (10-6, 31 pts) leading scorer is forward Lucas Roque with 20 goals and 13 assists in all 16 games played. Roque has already set a new career-high with his 33 points and scored five goals in Baltimore’s last two games.
This matchup will feature two top-five goalkeepers in goals against average (GAA). San Diego goalkeeper Boris Pardo ranks second in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) with a 4.13 GAA. Baltimore’s William Vanzela owns a 5.26 GAA.
The match begins at 3:05 p.m. PT at SECU Arena in Towson, Md. for the first of two matches on the east coast for the Sockers.
