Sockers prepare for Tacoma to begin homestand | Everything San Diego

The San Diego Sockers and Tacoma Stars will meet on Friday, Jan. 28 for the second time this season.

The season opened up for both teams in Tacoma when the Sockers came out victorious, 10-7, in an action-packed Western Division matchup.

Brandon Escoto and Charlie Gonzalez both earned four points (two goals and two assists) each. Juan Manuel Rojo and Leonardo De Oliveira scored a goal and an assist each.

San Diego returns home after a two-week-long road trip that saw three overtime victories. The Sockers have won four straight games and will look to extend the win streak to a season-best five games.

Escoto leads the club with 16 points (six goals and 10 assists), with Tavoy Morgan just behind him with 13 goals and two assists this season. Morgan has 14 points in his last six games.

Kraig Chiles enters the Friday night matchup with 13 points in the 2021-22 season, and one point short of 600 points in his indoor soccer career.

Tacoma lost their last two games to the Kansas City Comets (8-7) at home and (9-2) on the road. They place third in the West Division with a (2-4) record, behind the Sockers and Ontario Fury.

The Stars opened the season on a five-game homestand that spanned for over a month before playing their first road game on Jan. 22, where they lost by their largest margin yet.

Forward Nick Perera leads the Stars with 12 goals and seven assists. His 19 points this season ranks fifth in the league and second in the division with Dallas’s Luiz Morales.

Alessandro Canale has scored eight goals in the club’s last four games. Jamael Cox and Vinicius Dantas both recorded two goals in the season-opening loss to the Sockers.

The match begins at 7:35 p.m. PT at Pechanga Arena, and will be streamed on the MASL Soccer’s YouTube channel for all viewers.
