Last week, the San Diego Sockers split a weekend series with a win over the Dallas Sidekicks and a loss against the Mesquite Outlaws, just their second loss of the season.
The latter of the two weekend games saw an altercation between the two teams that also involved a Mesquite staff member, earning three Sockers suspensions: forward Tavoy Morgan (three games), defender Mitchell Cardenas (two games), and midfielder Gerardo Jurado (one game).
The Sockers will visit second-place Chihuahua Savage (11-3-1, 32 pts) on Friday, Feb. 24 and Monterrey Flash (7-5-2, 20 pts) on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Jurado will make the trip and be available to play in the Sunday match against the Flash.
In addition to the suspensions, defenders Sean Callahan and Guerrero Pino, and midfielders Brian Farber and Charlie Gonzalez will be unable to make the road trip to Chihuahua and Monterrey, Mexico, due to international travel and work obligations.
Callahan made his season debut on Feb. 16 in Dallas, but he was a vital piece of the San Diego defense last year in their MASL championship run.
Pino has been the best defender with the Sockers so far this season with 15 blocks and two assists in all 14 games played.
Farber has scored four goals and an assist in five games played with the Sockers after missing the first month. The 40-year-old midfielder also has two blocks on the season.
Gonzalez is the third-best scorer on the Sockers with 13 goals and 21 points recorded in all 14 games played. He leads the team with three game-winning goals this year. On defense, the midfielder has four blocks.
San Diego looks to keep their first place position with their double-header weekend as they wrap their six-game road trip before they return home on Saturday, Mar. 4 against the Sidekicks.
