It may be the best matchup in Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) this season as the league-best San Diego Sockers host the second-best record in the Kansas City Comets in a cross-to begin a two-match weekend.
The Sockers (13-0-1, 36 pts) are on a 10-game win streak and have earned points in all 14 matches so far this season. Their one loss came on Jan. 9 in an overtime loss to the Ontario Fury. Since then, they have beaten Ontario three times, including in their most recent match where they won 8-2.
San Diego has won by an average of three goals per game, and their +45 goal differential is second in MASL behind only the East Division’s Florida Tropics (+54).
Over their three-game road trip against the Fury and Tacoma Stars, the Sockers outscored its opponents 26-8. The 12-3 win over the Stars on Feb. 12 was the most goals scored this season by San Diego, and their largest margin of victory.
Kraig Chiles led the club with nine points scored during the road trip. Chiles recorded a four-point match and his first hat trick of the season. Tavoy Morgan put together his first four-goal performance since Mar. 23, 2019, and Leonardo de Oliveira and Charlie Gonzalez had five-point games in San Diego’s nine-point win over Tacoma on the road.
After winning their first six matches, the Comets (10-2-1, 32 pts) are 4-2-1 in their last seven games. They average 6.3 goals per game and own a 5-2 record on the road this season.
